Overview
About this safari
Tsavo East is the nearest big-game park to Watamu and the easiest safari to fit into a beach holiday. Two days is enough to see it properly without a long drive.
We leave Watamu early, enter the park at Sala Gate and game drive our way west towards the Voi River circuit — the most reliable stretch for elephant, lion and buffalo. Tsavo elephants take on the colour of the red volcanic soil they dust themselves with, which is what gives them their name.
After a night in the park you are out at first light for the best game viewing of the trip, then back to the coast in the afternoon.
